Kaia Gerber and Austin Butler may be two of the most beautiful people in Hollywood, but good genes only got them so far. After three years together and multiple jaw-dropping red carpet appearances, the daughter of Cindy Crawford and her Elvis beau have officially broken up.

But how did we get here? Like many Angeleno romances, theirs began at yoga class. Having first sparked dating rumors in December 2021, Gerber and Butler were spotted leaving the studio in coordinating athleisure, and it wasn’t long before things turned more serious. By spring, they made their couple debut at the Met Gala, and a few weeks later, they were kissing on the red carpet in Cannes. No strangers to the spotlight, Gerber and Butler nevertheless managed to keep the details of their relationship relatively under wraps.

December 2021: Kaia Gerber and Austin Butler first spark dating rumors.

Just one month after her breakup from Jacob Elordi, rumors began to swirl that Gerber had moved on with Butler after the two were photographed leaving a morning yoga class together in Los Angeles. In photos obtained by The Daily Mail, they wore coordinating couple’s athleisure while carrying box water.

February 2022: Kaia Gerber and Austin Butler spend their first Valentine’s Day together.  

While they still hadn’t publicly confirmed their relationship at this point, Gerber and Butler enjoyed a Valentine’s Day coffee and walk together in London.

March 2022: Kaia Gerber and Austin Butler make their first official outing as a couple.

Three months into their romance, Gerber and Butler marked their first outing as a couple at W Magazine‘s annual Best Performances party, where they arrived together holding hands. Inside the venue, they took their PDA up a notch, with Butler kissing Gerber on the cheek.

May 2022: Kaia Gerber and Austin Butler make their red carpet debut at the Met Gala (and kiss on the red carpet at Cannes). 

Gerber and Butler made their red carpet debut during fashion’s biggest night of the year: the Met Gala. The theme was “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” and for the occasion, the model opted for a metallic cutout gown by Alexander McQueen, while her boyfriend channeled Elvis in an all-black Prada suit with a silk scarf around his neck.

A few weeks later, the two officially sealed their coupledom with a kiss on the red carpet at the Elvis premiere in Cannes.

July 2022: Kaia Gerber makes a cameo in Austin Butler’s ‘V Magazine’ photoshoot.

You might’ve missed it, but Gerber made a cameo in Butler’s sexy photoshoot for ​V-MAN‘s fall-winter 2022 issue. In the black-and-white snap, only Gerber’s arms are visible, which are wrapped around Butler’s neck. While the rest of Gerber’s head and body are not visible, her unique wrist tattoo (the words “I know” with a line through them) gave away her identity.

March 2023: Kaia Gerber and Austin Butler attend the ‘Vanity Fair’ Oscars party together. 

Gerber was on hand to support Butler following his Oscar loss at the Vanity Fair after-party while wearing a silver-sequined gown with a thigh-high slit and a keyhole cutout.

April 2023: Kaia Gerber and Austin Butler attend the TIME100 Gala

In March the couple headed to New York City for another night of glitz and glam at the TIME100 Gala, which celebrates the publication’s annual list of 100 influential people. That year, Butler was included on the list thanks to his performance in Elvis.

May 2023: Kaia Gerber and Austin Butler go on a double date with her parents.

Gerber and Butler were spotted grabbing dinner with the model’s famous parents, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, at Roberta’s in Los Angeles’s Culver City neighborhood.

October 2023: Austin Butler supports Kaia Gerber from the front row during Paris Fashion Week.

Playing the role of supportive boyfriend, Butler watched Gerber walk down the runway at Valentino’s spring-summer 2024 show during Paris Fashion Week while cheering her on from the front row. Ahead of the show, Gerber and Butler arrived to the venue together hand-in-hand.

February 2024: Kaia Gerber makes a rare comment about her relationship with Austin Butler. 

In a rare move, Gerber opened up her relationship with Butler and why she keeps it as private as possible during an interview with WSJ Magazine. “Honestly, I feel like so few things in my life are private, and that is one of the things that I try to keep as sacred as possible,” she shared.

June 2024: Kaia Gerber cheers on her beau at the Los Angeles premiere of ‘The Bikeriders.’

After supporting his girlfriend all throughout Paris Fashion Week, it was time for Butler to step into the spotlight. With Gerber cheering him on from the sidelines, Butler hit the red carpet for the Los Angeles premiere of his new film The Bikeriders, a 1960s thriller in which he stars alongside English actress Jodie Comer.

July 2024: Kaia Gerber and Austin Butler enjoy another low-key date night.

The pair were spotted in New York City on their way to see the Broadway play Job. Gerber wore a graphic T-shirt emblazoned with the phrase “Come to my house. I have great books.” Butler likewise kept it casual in a gray T-shirt and black pants.

August 2024: The couple celebrates Austin Butler’s 33rd birthday.

Gerber and Butler stayed in New York City to celebrate the Elvis actor’s 33rd birthday on August 17. While the festivities were kept under wraps, the pair were once again spotted out and about.

December 2024: Austin Butler and Kaia Gerber break up.

Though the split wasn’t made public until January 2025, the couple had apparently called it quits before the 2024 holiday season, according to a source who spoke to TMZ.

“The couple ended their romantic relationship around the end of 2024—which explains Austin’s MIA status from Kaia’s family trip to Mexico for the New Year,” the outlet said, adding that there is “no bad blood between the former couple…the relationship just simply ran its course after a good 3 years together.”
